Our Process

Concept Design, Design Development, Furniture and Joinery Design, Sourcing, Project Management

Design always starts off with a conceptual stage. During this ‘idea’ stage, we run with the brief and interpret it as best we can -we pull together all of the things that have been discussed during the briefing stage. We consider this the most important stage because all designs begin with the idea. At this stage we prepare a concept design including, as necessary, furniture, basic lighting layout, sample boards and visuals, and photographs or sketches of selected furniture and fittings to discuss with the client. It’s a compilation of what we believe to be the ultimate ‘wish list’.

The key word in all of this is ‘PROCESS’ – the design and all of the elements along with it evolves over a number of stages. As we present and agree on ideas and styles we start moving past the concept stage and into the design development and procurement stage.

Following concept design, necessary revisions are executed to prepare a developed design, including coordinated and updated proposals for designs and specifications, and preliminary cost information. At this stage we prepare technical designs and drawings in accordance with Edit Design Studio’s responsibilities and in co-ordination with others instructed by the client in relation to the project. Material selection of the fixed hard finishes such as flooring, windows, ironmongery, internal doors and architraves, moldings (skirting and cornice) fixed joinery usually happens at this stage as well. We provide a full procurement service for this process and look after ordering and deliveries. We have trade accounts worldwide so you can be sure you are not purchasing items above the recommended retail pricing.

Project management stage covers operations on site including administering /managing the project where construction /services are being carried out by others. We visit the site/premises to monitor the progress of the design and overall quality of the building works. Within the scope of the services, see that contractors/ fitters/ suppliers have all information necessary for manufacture / construction / execution of all elements of the project. At the end of each stage, we inspect the works and arrange for any defects to be remedied by the contractor.

Once handover is completed, we still keep in touch. ‘Settling down’ time allows you to identify any further items that need resolving, and we stay with you throughout this phase to ensure that the space is working for you the way you want it to. Our aim is the client’s satisfaction!
